I can’t believe we’re a quarter of the way through the year already! Does it feel fast you anyone else? No? Just me?
I know in January everyone says they have a ton of resolutions that they plan to stick to. I’m going to eat less sugar, I’m going to eat more green stuff, I’m going to the gym more, I’m going to write a book, I’m going to read 100 books; but does anyone make quarter goals? I mean if you said you were going to read 100 books this year, first off props to you, did you leave it there? Or did you say I’m going to read 25 books every three months? The second one feels much more attainable huh?
I saw a post on WordPress recently by Janna G. Noelle that went over her quarterly goals. I thought that was a great idea, so I decided to break mine down a little bit, and I was really pleased with what I saw. I didn’t mean to set such goals for myself for a quarter, if anything, I think I had planned most of them to be a 6-month thing. So I am feeling pretty darn proud of the hustle I unknowingly put in.
1. I wanted to start a blog.
2. Keep said blog updated once a week. (Today should be blog #13)
3. I wanted to reach 50 subscribers by June 24th if I could. That would be the end of 6 months.
4. I wanted to get some personal writing out of my head and onto the paper.
5. I heard social media presence helps writers to grow and build an author platform. So I wanted to dabble with that.
It might not seem like much to you guys, but I’m pretty bad at schedules, and social media, and communication in general. I think I subconsciously wanted to do all these things to help with, well, all these things.
I started my blog with my first post on January 7th of this year. Since then, I have posted 14 blogs; today is number 15. So I’m two ahead of schedule, and only one was late. But that was also to make a point, so does that count as late?
I know the number of subscribers is less important when compared to interaction, but I have hit some pretty decent numbers for both. Today, I tag in with 29 blog subscribers, 121 likes, and 27 comments. For someone that doesn’t have a niche, or a platform, or a ton of friends and family to stalk my site; I think that’s pretty good. So I think my next quarter will be to double the amount of interactions I have on my site. Feel free to help me out with that!
I had planned to write a novel draft in a month. March was going to be my own NaNoWriMo, and I did pretty well. However, I got whatever was going around early on and didn’t have the energy or brain power to write for about a week and a half. I’m close to the end of my book, and I think adding a week during April isn’t cheating. So if I can finish my book by the end of the week, I will call that a success. Right? Does anyone think that’s cheating?
As far as social media, I’m a novice. Completely, and entirely noob-a-licious. So, I have Facebook down. I don’t use it as often as I should, but I do use it for the writing groups online. I’ve made some great connections, learned a lot, made some friends, done my first guest blog! (Hi Michele!) I also started an Instagram, that I’m keeping up with ok. A good amount of followers, some interactions (Shout out to my cousin Cathy! <3) I also started using Twitter. Which, if you saw my latest bonus blog, isn’t going quite as great. I’ve learned that social media is like having a full-time job on your phone, and I’m not a phone person.
So that’s where I’m at guys! I’ve done pretty great so far. I made it a lot further than I expected to in the first quarter. Thanks to all of you! You are all appreciated! It’s time now for quarter two. Keep your eyes peeled for a new quarter goals list next week, and let’s get our work going. Leave a comment with what you think of my crazy world of random. Leave a comment with your goals or achievements. Like this post, if you just want to support without actually engaging the crazy lady!
Happy quarter two guys!
